Warm Enough to BBQ!

SueBC here… We don’t get a whole lot of snow in Vancouver, but it sure can rain! My husband took advantage of the rare clear skies last night to barbecue.

The menu was simple, healthy food:

  • A strip loin steak. No sauce to add calories; just a nice rub.
  • Red, yellow, and green peppers, lightly stir-fried in olive oil.
  • Roast yellow-fleshed potatoes à la Jamie Oliver – boiled first, then roasted with olive oil, garlic cloves, and salt and pepper.

The only thing not at the table….

  1. okay, that looks delish!!! I LOVE grilling! We grill on an average 5 times a week from spring to fall.

It’s in the low 70’s here (will get cold again on Wednesday) so we took advantage and grilled Cajun spiced Chicken legs! We also had parsnips, carrots, and apples in a citrus sauce (It was a frozen package from Sams!) I’ve no idea what Spawn has planned for dinner tomorrow!

    1. Well we are not quite that warm, but warm enough. 6 degrees Celsius or 43 degrees Fahrenheit… but at least not raining or snowing… yet. Those chicken legs sound good. We have just rediscovered parsnips. They’re really good in a stew!

  2. BBQ in the winter! Inspired! Did your hubs really put on the BBQ outside?
I really like BBQs, too, and have found out that grilled vegetables are actually really tasty. (I’m sure they’d be even tastier when eaten in the presence of *that* table decoration…)

    1. Yes, by my half-joking suggestion earlier in the day! It was a surprise to me too! I like grilled zucchini and corn on the cob. (The hubby was not really open to the additional table decoration.😃)

  3. For some reason, my hubs does not approve of “That Guy” as he has gone back to calling him. (As if we would all run off with him or something . . . we wouldn’t, right?)

Hubs does break out the BBQ (ours is a gas grill) in winter too. ❄️ He got the idea couple of years ago from one of his older brothers that started doing it. Even in the snow, the grill gets hot, so it does work. Hubs will even put zucchini, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes on a stick to grill which he knows I will like. I think he really only started doing it this last two years. I guess he gets hungry and is tired of waiting for me to cook something. heh ❄️

    1. Yeah, my hubby can’t seem to help rolling his eyes when RA is mentioned. (Maybe he suspects that if Richard came to take me away, I would have some serious thinking to do!)

Here, because it rains so much, we don’t often think of barbecuing. But we should probably do it more! Veggies on a stick is a great idea.

      1. Seriously, men can be so territorial. Wonder where that comes from?

Veggies on a stick help to turn them on the grill and not fall in too. Not sure where he got the package of little sticks with one end already sharpened, but I think I’m keeping this man. Haha
